Frequently Asked Questions
What is a charter school?
A charter school is a tuition-free, independently operated public school. These schools embrace flexibility and autonomy in their operations in exchange for increased responsibility and accountability for academic performance and student achievement.
What is the difference between charter schools and other public schools?
Charter schools are public schools chosen by families for their children, operating with more autonomy compared to district schools due to fewer regulatory constraints. Our charter school operates independently from the local school district and is seeking authorization from the SC Public Charter School District (SCPCSD). Approval by the SCPCSD means we are held accountable for academic outcomes and for fulfilling the commitments outlined in our charter. Each year, we must demonstrate proficiency in academic achievement, financial stewardship, and organizational sustainability.
My child has special needs. Can they apply for enrollment?
At PDILA, everyone is invited, including English Language Learners and scholars who meet poverty criteria. We embrace diversity and inclusivity for all!
If my child attends PDILA, do they have to take the state standardized tests?
Yes, charter school students are required to participate in standardized testing as mandated by the federal government.
Is transportation provided?
Currently, there will be no transportation provided for the beginning stages of PDILA. However, we are looking to expand in that area in the future.
Who can attend PDILA?
Any 2nd-5th grader residing in South Carolina can attend PDILA for the 2025-2026 school year. There are no restrictions preventing students from surrounding counties from enrolling—all South Carolina students are welcome.
Will the same state standards be taught?
Certainly! While PDILAhas the autonomy to select its curriculum, it must adhere to the standards set by the South Carolina State Board of Education.
Will uniforms be required?
Yes! Students at PDILA will be required to wear uniforms.
Where will the school be located?
Our charter school is currently in the planning stages and is actively seeking a suitable location to best serve our community and one that will also fit our vision and mission. Look for updates soon!
